What is SEO?

What is SEO

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is basically a tool to make a website more visible on specific keywords on search engines like Google, Bing, etc.

For example- if you search for “helpertip” on Google you will see our website on the top results. Because it is optimized with this specific keyword.

Remember you can optimize your website according to search engine algorithms. You can’t change the search engine’s algorithms.

What are the types of SEO?

If you are from technical background then you may know that search engine optimization is a very complex process. In the beginning (early 2000), SEO was a simple process of indexing a website on a search engine. So, ranking a website was easy at that time.

Search engine always changes their algorithm to index valuable & informational websites on top. It is hard to explain through words. But I am trying to explain it in easy ways.

Now, a search engine like “GOOGLE” categorized the websites according to their SEO plan. For example-

  • Technical SEO
  • On-page SEO
  • Off-page SEO
  • Content SEO
  • Local SEO
  • Mobile SEO
  • eCommerce SEO

These are the types of SEO for a website. Among these, the first 3 SEO types are most important to rank a website.

How does SEO work on a website?

All search engines use bots to crawl the web pages of different websites. The bots crawl every element on the websites like pages, blogs, metadata, sitemaps, user info, etc. to index the site.

After crawling a website successfully, the algorithms will analyze the ranking factors of the site. For example- headings, meta info, keywords, etc.

Factors that help in SEO

There are various types of ranking factors that help in SEO. The four most important factors are briefly described below.

1) On-Page SEO

To do a great on-page optimization, we need to focus on four important elements.

1.1) Keyword Research

If you want good traffic on your blog website, you should always do keyword research for a blog post. But why do you need to do this? it can run organic traffic to your blog. A good keyword can rank your website on the top result on Google or any search engine.

Always avoid keyword stuffing work. Because it will affect the SEO of the website. Google tries to rank that page that has good organic traffic.

How should you do keyword research for blog posts?

1.2) Good Content

Good content is the main tool for a blog website. If you deliver a good article means informative, useful, and easy-to-read article then it will help to increase the average engagement time. Try to write unique content to generate more engagement.

On the article, put your best keywords to make the article SEO friendly. If you use WordPress, you can use Yoast SEO or RankMath plugin. These are some SEO tools that help to write a good SEO-friendly article.

Also remember, never use too many keywords in a short article. A search engine will reject it as a keyword stuffing article.

1.3) Image SEO

New bloggers always neglect this image SEO tool. Remember, many websites use this trick to get organic traffic. When people search for something, google shows some related images at the top of the search result. For example, printrest.com is an image-sharing social media platform.

For a blog, you should use 1200*600px dimensional pictures, alt text, and captions. Also, try Pinterest.com to share your blog post using the images.

2. Technical SEO

To know about technical SEO for a website, first, you have to learn some technical topics like how a website loads on a device, how a search engine understands the website, and how users interact with a website.

Technical SEO is the most important and can make a huge impact on a website.

Working principle of a Website

If you are a true beginner, you might not know about these things. That’s why I am explaining these in very easy language. SEO starts from buying a domain name to the endless.

Domain name and IP Address: I am sure that you have heard about URLs (Uniform Resource Locator) like https://helpertip.com. This is nothing but a person/company stores data on their URL. Let’s understand this with a small example. Assume that you have bought a domain name “abc.com” and you have hosted it at hostinger which is a hosting service provider.

A domain name always links with a server called the domain nameserver(DNS). But a search engine like google or bing does not understand the name. That’s why the internet uses a series of numbers for a website called Internet Protocol Address(IP Address). I am explaining very tough terms, right? leave it.

In simple words, you have to buy a hosting service to share your service with people and have to link it with your domain name. Thus, a complete URL build. Always try to buy a short domain name without any numbers on it. For example- “abc123.com” don’t buy this type of domain name.

Think logically, can you remember the names of dozens of websites that have numbers in their URLs? Obviously not, right? So we should buy a domain name without any number which is easy to remember.

Process of requesting website from a server

You may think this is a silly question but trust me it is a complicated process. There are a few steps I am going to explain briefly below and you should know these topics.

Step 1: A user makes a request to the browser. Here a person, suppose you type “helpertip” on your chrome browser. That means you are requesting the browser to search the website whose domain name is helpertip.

Step 2: The browser will search for all the data related to Helpertip you to keep your favor. When you click on the link you are searching for, you will see a good-looking website. But the server sends only HTML, CSS, Javascript, or other programming languages to the browser. But the browser compiles these codes for you and shows you an easy-to-use website.

Under this process, there is another technical process you should know. When you search on the browser, you just type the domain name. But the browser looks for the IP address as you click on the link and the server sends the data.
